Top 10 Cameras for Travel in 2026
The best travel camera is the one you actually take with you. We spent four months shooting across mountains, cities and coastlines to find cameras that balance image quality, weight and battery life.
How we tested
Each camera was carried for at least two weeks of real travel. We scored image quality in mixed light, autofocus on moving subjects, battery life over a full day, and how easy the camera was to use with gloves or in a hurry.
- Weight: everything here is under 1 kg with a lens attached.
- Battery: at least 350 shots or 60 minutes of 4K video.
- Durability: weather sealing or a rugged body was a big plus.
Our top picks at a glance
- VisionCam X5 – Best overall. Full-frame image quality in a 658 g body, with weather sealing that shrugs off coastal spray.
- Compact zoom – Best pocket camera. A 1-inch sensor and 24–200 mm lens that slips into a jacket pocket.
- Action cam – Best for adventure. Waterproof to 10 m with horizon levelling for bike, surf and ski footage.
- APS-C mirrorless – Best value. Fast autofocus and great kit lens for under $900.
Choosing a travel lens
A 24–70 mm zoom covers landscapes, street scenes and portraits. If you prefer a lighter setup, a 35 mm prime is small, sharp and great in low light.
“Travel light, shoot often. The best photos come from the camera you never leave in the hotel.”Daniel Reyes, Arshan photography lead
The verdict
For most travellers the VisionCam X5 kit hits the sweet spot: full-frame quality, excellent stabilisation and a body that survives the elements. Pair it with a fast SD card and a lightweight strap and you are ready to go.
